  • You’re following another person’s meaning of achievement.
  • Because of an absence of internal work, a lot of your behaviors don’t align with who you really want to be.

  • You’re not asking for help when you need it.

It’s important to identify what’s holding you back so that you can take steps to overcome it.

Success Cannot be Achieved Overnight

As defined earlier, success is more a subjective term.

Success is not something that happens overnight, but rather a journey that never stops.

As for reasons for failure to achieve excellence, there are many factors that can contribute to it. The factor generally is responsible for failures, are as below:

  • Lack of clarity on goals and objectives.
  • Fear of failure.
  • Lack of motivation.
  • Lack of focus.
  • Lack of discipline.
  • Inability to prioritize tasks.

Specifically, the following factors should be considered for getting success.

  1. 1. Unwillingness to Take Risks

Reluctance to face challenges can be a significant obstruction to success. At the point when we are reluctant to face challenges, we are more averse to attempt new things, stepping beyond our usual range of familiarity.

We may also miss out on opportunities that could lead to success.

Consequences of unwillingness to take risks:

  • Reduced chances of success.
  • Missed opportunities. Opportunities seldom knock twice.
  • Reduced personal growth. It is difficult to manage changes.
  • Unfulfilled potential.

Develop willing ness to take risks.

Here are some additional tips for overcoming unwillingness to take risks:

  • Identify your fears.  Once you identify your fears, you can start to address them.
  • Challenge your negative thoughts. Challenge these thoughts and replace them with more positive thoughts.
  • Focus on the potential benefits of taking risks.  Think about the positive things that could happen.
  • Visualize yourself succeeding.  This will help you to feel more confident and motivated to take the risk.
  • Take action to start risk.  Start by taking small risks and gradually increase the size of the risks you take.

  1. Lack of persistence

Absence of persistence is a significant obstacle to progress. When we give up easily, we are less inclined to accomplish our objectives. We may also miss out on opportunities that could lead to success.

Lack of persistence leads to

  • Reduced chances of success.
  • Lost opportunities.
  • Reduced self-confidence.
  • Unfulfilled potential.

The above negative aspects can be countered by

  • Setting realistic goals.
  • Break down large goals into smaller ones.
  • Focus on your progress.
  • Learn from your mistakes.
  • Celebrate your successes.
  • Find a mentor or coach.
  • Join a support group.
  • Visualize your success.
  • Take breaks to stay fresh and focussed.

  1. Instant Gratification

Instant gratification is a short-term gain and the immediate fulfillment of a person’s needs or desires. The instant gratification may be the result of poor choices and mis planning and will lead to unsustainable outcome.

The lack of planning can also lead to not getting exactly what is wanted.

The people want to get cured at the earliest from short term treatment which may not last long. These people are sick for instant gratification – not a desirable action.

Remember that instant gratification never thinks of consequences, only of momentary pleasures.

  1. Lack of Priorities

Lack of priorities can be a major obstacle to success as we can easily get distracted. Unprioritized ventures if taken up may lead to complete anything and may not be able to focus on what is most important.

Make the presence felt instead of avoiding it by sending gifts at ceremonial occasions, is an example of prioritization.

The process of prioritization must be objectively decided. Subjectivity shall create hindrances.

Consequences of lack of priorities:

  • Reduced productivity.
  • Increased stress.
  • Poor decision-making
  • Loss of focus.

Here are some additional tips for overcoming lack of priorities:

  • Be realistic about your time and energy.
  • Learn to say no.
  • Delegate tasks
  • Take care of yourself.

  1. Selfishness and Greed

Success and selfishness are frequently described in the same sentence.

It is a behavior characterized by a desire for wealth, power, or other types of affluence, as well as a readiness to do whatever it takes to obtain them, even at the expense of causing harm to others.

Success shouldn’t be obtained at the expense of wronging others or being selfish. Greed is not a virtue and can have detrimental effects on both the individual and society at large.

Greed should be avoided because it can have unfavorable effects.

Greed always wants more. Needs can be satisfied but greed cannot. Greed destroys relationships.

  1. 7. Lack of Conviction (Conviction – strong belief)

Conviction is crucial for success because it provides you with the stamina and drive to persevere in the face of adversity.

Keep in mind that conviction is not a quality you are born with. You have to cultivate it over time. The following are some pointers for growing conviction:

  • Set specific objectives.
  • Conduct research.
  • Surround yourself with successful individuals.
  • Don’t be scared to make a slow, steady start and gain momentum.
  • Honour your accomplishments.

Faith without action is a delusion. Faith does not wait for miracles but produces them. If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you are right.

–Henry Ford\
